Yesterday was opening dinner and I had a blast with the Malaysians and Japanese contingents. So reporting todays events...

It's the first day for the rounds in the Asian Universities Debating Championship and frankly I'm not too happy with my performance:

Round 1: Vs. Op-NUS2
Theme: MIDDLE EAST
THBT the Arab League should bypass Hamas in the distribution of Palestinian aid
THW end all sanctions on Iran
THW fund democratic opposition movements in the Middle East

We debated the 1st motion and won by a slim margin. I was the weakest link, so to spak. That only tells me that I have to step up so much! I think that i really have to step out of the debate and find the best analysis to rebut the statements made by our opponents. And I should think faster, by the way. Our adjudicator was fair since she didn't step into the debate and disregarded the contentious status quo. She focused more on the arguments because of that. I think she was helpful too, to the team but not to me, individually speaking. Geez! A presentation of two realities which should only be one.

Round 2: Vs. Gov-Lyceum2
Theme: PORNOGRAPHY
THW require the us of condoms in all pornographic media
THW ban the inclusion of simulated rape in pornography
THW protect the right to create and publish pornographic literary works involving children

3rd motion was called to order and by a slim margin again! I don't know who the weakest link was but I think I didn't do a good enough job either. We won mostly because our counter proposal and arguments were largely unresponded to. Jess kept on mentioning my teammates so, I know I really didn't do that good a job. He was, as usual, very fair and persuasive. Although for this time, I found him less helpful than he was before in the Nationals. Oh and he was straight to the point. I like that about adjes. If you're hurt, then take it! But his words really don't hurt anyway.

With a 2-0 win-loss margin, I really have to step up because other teams won't be so forgiving and so nice. They'll eat us up especially with power matching. We'll go up against winners as well. Ack! Sushil! I hope I kick his ass next time. He kicked mine last year...and gobbled us up whole, too. A trashing debate, that was!
